Laundry Blessing-No, Not An Oxymoron

Jessie Dutra guest blogs this week. She is the talented photographer who provided the lighthouse picture for my blog. She’s a farm owner, mom, sister, aunt, and one of the most generous people I know. I am blessed to call her my sister and friend.

The laundry basket overflowed with fermented socks, towels and work clothes. I dragged the heavy burden down the stairs to the already overflowing laundry room. Grumbling to myself I began the tedious task of sorting. Whites, darks, shirts, jeans and let’s not forget the towels that tormented me from the smell of two potty training puppies.

I put in the soap and started the machine. Laundry lay at my feet in soiled piles. Rolling my eyes I started my little pity party. It didn’t last long. Deep in my soul I heard God speak to me.

“You are able to sort laundry. You are able to lift, bend, and use your brain.”

He had my attention. My thoughts went to the many people incapable of such a simple task. God showed the many blessing that lay on my laundry room floor and swished around in my washer. I thought about the dirty towels and was reminded,

“Your family has been blessed with two puppies. Those dirty jeans at your feet belong to your hard-working husband and remarkable son. The dirt on them is from your family farm that provides for you. You have a family who adores you, clothes, a home, and food. Most of all you have Me. I’ve blessed you beyond measure with dirty laundry.”

Has God convicted you about complaining and not being thankful?

  1. Wonderful inspiration for those of us who have those occasional pity parties when we’re overwhelmed. Sometimes it is those everyday tasks that teach us the most powerful lessons. Thank you Jessie and Cherrilynn.
